Department/ Program Name: Department of Nutrition and Dietetics / Nutrition and Dietetics (Faculty) Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Cevat Sayılı Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nutrition and Dietetics started its educational activities in the field of nutrition and dietetics in the 2018-2019 academic year. After successfully completing their 4-year education, our students are entitled to receive the "Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics" and the title of "Dietitian".
According to the additional 13th article of the law published in the Official Gazette dated April 26, 2011, numbered 27916 and numbered 6225, “A dietitian is a health professional who has graduated from faculties and schools that provide undergraduate education in the field of nutrition and dietetics; determines nutrition programs for healthy individuals, arranges necessary nutrition programs for patients upon the direction of the physician, prepares nutrition programs in mass feeding places, and ensures food safety.”
Our department's strong academic staff consists of 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 4 assistant professors, and 3 research assistants with doctorates. During their education, our students receive practical training to reinforce their theoretical knowledge with the Principles of Nutrition Laboratory, Organic Material and Food Microbiology Laboratory, and Anthropometry Laboratory, where all necessary equipment and materials are available. Additionally, with the Applications in the Field of Nutrition and Dietetics courses in the 4th-year curriculum, our students have the opportunity to gain professional experience under the supervision of faculty members in a wide range of institutions such as Burdur State Hospital, Burdur Public Health Center, dormitory cafeterias affiliated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the university cafeteria. Along with all these, we apply to the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program every year with our 3rd and 4th-year students and receive positive results. In this way, our students gain significant experience in project planning, execution, and reporting.

Education and Training Model:
Education: After successfully completing their 4-year (3+1 education model) or 8-semester (6+2 education model) education, our students are entitled to receive the "Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics" and the title of "Dietitian".
Our department provides personalized education and support for our students to gain competencies such as leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation, written and verbal communication, social responsibility, and effective and efficient collaboration with others. With Academic Advising and Career Planning, the courses that our students need support in are determined, and personalized support is provided.
Training: During their education, our students develop their practical skills and strengthen their employment opportunities with rich laboratory applications, off-campus hospital and fieldwork applications in their relevant fields, and internship applications in institutions providing mass catering and community health centers.
Tuition Fee: During course registration/renewal processes, the contribution fee/tuition fee can be learned from the "Fee Information" menu on the Student Information System (https://obs.mehmetakif.edu.tr/oibs/ogrenci/login.aspx) address. No tuition fee is charged from our students in our department.
Program Accreditations: Our department has not yet been accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Health Sciences Education Programs (SABAK).

WHY MAKÜ NUTRITION AND DIETETICS?
Principles of Nutrition Laboratory: Within the scope of the applications of the Principles of Nutrition course, applications on cereals, meat, milk, eggs, legumes, vegetables, and fruits are carried out; topics such as selected materials and their contents, techniques used, and usage areas of the products made are associated with theoretical knowledge. In this way, a solid foundation is established by acquiring information about food and nutrition from the 1st year.
Organic Material and Food Microbiology Laboratory: It allows for the effective implementation of the applications of the Basic Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry, and Analyses courses and the conduct of scientific studies. The Organic Material and Food Microbiology Laboratory is becoming more comprehensive day by day with various projects carried out by the department's faculty members and students.
Anthropometry Laboratory: It provides opportunities for evaluations such as body analysis, circumference measurements, skinfold thicknesses, and handgrip strength within the scope of the Nutritional Status Assessment and Applications and Graduation Studies courses. The Anthropometry Laboratory is becoming more comprehensive day by day with various projects carried out by the department's faculty members and students, allowing for new research/projects to be conducted.
