Social Responsibility Event for the Elderly in Düğer Village by MAKÜ Gerontology Department

Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Health Sciences Gerontology Department students conducted a comprehensive social responsibility event by coming together with elderly individuals in Burdur's Düğer Village on May 12, 2025.
Within the scope of the event, various practical activities were organized to support the cognitive and physical capacities of elderly individuals. In the studies conducted by the students, applications such as balance games with ping pong balls, paper games, and free drawing activities that develop mental and motor skills were included. The participating elderly individuals expressed great satisfaction with these interactive and supportive activities.
The program was conducted under the academic coordination of the Head of the Gerontology Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevinç Sütlü, project advisor Dr. Lecturer Member Nurvet Büyükyörük, and faculty members Dr. Lecturer Member Ebru Akbaş and Dr. Lecturer Member Kerime Öğüt Düzen.
With the event held, Gerontology Department students aimed to create awareness towards active and healthy aging processes by finding the opportunity to reflect their theoretical knowledge into the field. The event also contributed to strengthening social bonds by promoting intergenerational interaction.
MAKÜ Gerontology Department continues its efforts to increase the quality of life of elderly individuals and to spread the understanding of active aging through community-based practices with determination.
