Special Webinar for International Day of Older Persons: “Age-Friendly Practices in Local Governments”

In collaboration with our Faculty's Department of Gerontology and Çavdır Vocational School, an online event was organized on September 29, 2025, as part of World Elderly Day.

The guest of the webinar event was Gerontologist Meryem Ceyhan, who works at the Beşiktaş Municipality 65+ LIFE Office. The webinar titled “Age-Friendly Practices in Local Governments: The Example of Beşiktaş Municipality” took place with the participation of students and academic staff from the gerontology department, social services department, and elderly care program.

In the event, Gerontologist Meryem Ceyhan explained the services offered by Beşiktaş Municipality through the 65+ Life Office. Efforts to increase the active participation of individuals aged 65 and over in social life, facilitate their access to health and care services, and develop an age-friendly urbanism approach were shared. Particularly, Gerontomimari Service, 65+ Digital Literacy, 65+ Legal Consultancy Service, 75+ Podiatry (Foot Health) Unit, psychosocial support services, home care practices, social activities for the elderly, and volunteer activities were conveyed with examples.

Participants had the opportunity to discuss the role of local governments in enhancing the quality of life for elderly individuals, while also highlighting the importance of age-friendly city practices in Turkey.
